Hi, friend

My resume tells you that I'm a Swiss army knife and a hard worker. But it doesn't cover my interests, lifestyle, or my dogs' names. If you're interested, keep reading.

My Values

Q&A

Q: What's your day-to-day like?

A: I live a simple life in OKC with Carly, my wife, and two dogs, Ozzy and Bronco. Some days are slow—an easy morning, a rewarding day of work, a simple meal, walking the dogs, and relaxing. Others may be more challenging...usually by my own design. I am a self-described project person. So, I may have to wake up early to prep some food or spend my evening on a home improvement project. But, these are all things I enjoy. Regardless of the activity, I find gratitude in the small moments life has to offer.

Q: How do you spend your free-time?

A: I spend enough time behind a computer as it is. So, I enjoy working with my hands. That means spending a lot of time in the kitchen or re-finishing old furniture. I also value my time in nature—working to make my backyard a functional part of the ecosystem, gardening, hiking, and hunting. Hunting usually surprises folks. I get it. I don't really fit the stereotype. As I've gotten older, I've found hunting to be a grounding practice. It is time I get to spend with my father, sit in peace, care for nature, and harvest sustainable food for family and friends.

Q: Aaron, how did you come to graphic design?

A: Well, I was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX. As a youngster, I was fortunate enough to be exposed to myriad opportunities. All those museum trips, lessons, and camps fostered my curious and independent sense of self. Although my school didn't offer many art classes, I knew I enjoyed the visual arts and had a knack for working with computers. So, when it came time to declare a major, I chose graphic design by process of elimination. And, if there's one thing I learned, it's that I enjoy and excel in working with my hands. Some of my best projects include hand-made source material, like carvings, cross-stitching, screen-prints, and drawings.

Q: What is your design aesthetic?

A: Eclectic is the easy answer. I enjoy the combination mid-century modern lines, southwestern colors and materials, mixed with homemade or thrifted treasures. If I'm working on a personal design project, I embrace simple colors, illustrative typography, texture, and attitude. Don't get me wrong, I love a good grid, but I certainly prefer something that looks like a human made it. Professional projects are a different story. As a designer and brand manager, I respect the guidelines too much to deviate.
